We all would like to eat healthier but it can sometimes be dam near impossible to know if your current diet is actually healthy enough to help you get the results you are looking for. Every second product on the market these days are called healthy as it is good for business in our health conscious society, yet the obesity level is going up and up! Why? Well just because a label says something doesn’t really mean it is true nor does it mean you can eat as much of it as you like.

So, to determine if your current diet is healthy enough I am going to discuss some factors below that will be able to show you if your current diet is the one that will help you get that 6 pack you always wanted or if it is time for you to look at something a little more powerful.

Now there are several questions you should ask yourself when trying to work out the healthiness (or lack thereof) of your current eating plan.  These questions include:

Does my diet include lots of fruits and vegetables?

You should be eating between 5 and 9 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. That is roughly 2 cups of fruit and 2 ½ cups of vegetables.

When shopping for vegetables and fruits, it is important to choose a good variety of dark green, dark red, orange and yellow varieties.  That is because different colored fruits and vegetables contain a variety of different nutrients, including vitamin C, vitamin A and beta carotene.

Very few people get enough servings of fruit and vegetables in on a daily basis. If you are one of them then follow the guidelines above and get your diet back on track.

Does my diet include a wide variety of foods?

You should be eating a large variety of foods since no one food contains all the nutrients needed by the human body.  Make sure you foods from all these major food groups; grains and breads, fruits and vegetables, meats, beans and nuts.

Avoid any of these food groups, especially something like vegetables for instance, and not only will it have a major impact on your health but also hinder your progress for a sexier body.

Does my diet include grain products?

A healthy diet will always include a wide variety of grain based products.  Grains include a large number of important nutrients, including high levels of dietary fiber.

Always go for whole grain products, since whole grain products like wheat bread contain more nutrients than more refined white bread and similar products.

Does my day start with a good breakfast?

Whether you start your day with a good balanced breakfast, or not, is often a good sign of how healthy your diet is.  If you skip breakfast because you are trying to avoid a few extra calories, or because you are too busy only to end up being so hungry a few hours later that you hunt down the nearest donut store for something to fill the gap, chances are your diet can use some work.

A healthy breakfast not only provides a foundation for the rest of the day but it also kick starts your metabolism that will help you burn more calories throughout the day. Eating breakfast will also help you avoid cravings and provides much needed nutrition.

Am I always buying my meals instead of making them?

One part of following a healthy, low fat diet is avoiding prepared foods whenever possible, since prepared foods tend to have higher amounts of fat and sodium than fresh foods.

One of the best things you can do is to prepare your own food whenever possible. This way you will know exactly what is in each meal you eat and you can make sure you only use the highest quality, low fat foods to prepare all your meals.

Do I drink enough water?

Drinking plenty of fresh, pure water is important to maintaining a healthy body and a healthy lifestyle.  Water is important to maintaining optimal levels of health and almost every system in your body needs water to function properly.

Try and drink 8 glasses of water per day.

Does my weight zigzag up and down?

If you gain weight without even trying then it can be a clear sign that your diet is not good enough and you eat more than what your body needs to maintain itself in a healthy state. Following a healthy diet, and getting plenty of regular exercise, is the only way to lose weight and keep it off.

Do I still come across salt, sugar, alcohol and caffeine in my diet on a regular basis?

Although most foods are fine in moderation, excessive amounts of any of these four mentioned above can indicate a serious problem with your diet.  Cutting out things like sugar and salt is not just way healthier; it will also help you drop fat much faster and as many of you are here because you want to get ripped and reveal you 6 pack, avoiding these kinds of foods should be no-brainer for you.

So there you go! Ask yourself these questions on a regular basis to make sure your diet stays on track and you don’t waste time eating unhealthy foods that are only taking your further away from your goals.
