Body Fat Calculator

This Body Fat calculator makes use of the US Navy Fitness Formula to estimate body fat percentage, lean and fat mass.  Use this calculator as a self help tool as all you need is a measuring tape to take various circumference readings over your body.  This method should not be used as a substitute for the advice of a fitness professional.  We recommend that when possible you make use of a Skinfold caliper test for a more accurate reading.
Fill in your circumference measurements below and calculate your body fat.  Remember this is only an estimate and is best used to show continual progress.  Waist measurement should be taken around the narrowest part of your waist, and the hip measurement should be taken around the widest area.

  19. peter

Normally around 6 to 8%. So if your body fat is that low and you still can’t see your abas, not even a 4 pack then you need to wokr on building your abs up a bit or you can just get even more ripped.

    Hi Peter

Do you recommend weighted ab exercises to help create more visable abs (assuming body fat is low enough) over non weighted exercises ie to help them ‘pop’ out more??

Also do you recommend hitting lower abs one day / upper abs next / obliques another day etc or train the entire core in the same session??

  74. peter
    January 8, 2012

To help build your abs weighted exercses are best. As far as doing one area per day or all togther, it does not really matter. Sometimes I split it up and sometimes I don’t.

Hey Peter. I’ve entered the 6 pack challenge a few times just on my own non-commercial. Right now I’m in between 12-16 % body fat from approximate measurements. I feel great, thank you for the workouts.

I was wondering if there was a way I could get some muscle building forearm exercizes. I was thinking Dumbell jacks / Hammer curls. Because even though my shoulders and biceps look nice. I want to improve on my forearms too!

I also merged a few of the 6 Pack Extreme challenges’ Exercises with the Cover model Challenge. Weight training from the 6 pack Extreme Challenge, Matched with the Cardio + ab exercises Has made me very exhausted. I have a cheat meal once a week. Sometimes twice if I slip up :P. But I’m sticking to my diet best I can. More vegetables than breads. And more Potatoes and lean proteins.

    thanks again!.

I really think I can succeed at my seemingly impossible long held dream to get a 6pack. Thanks! Want to join the 6pack challenge too. But I started not wanting to wait for the next one. I am taking daily photos, four poses per day, flexed and relaxed, and front and side. After 6 weeks if all goes well I will send you the first and last days photos. Hi peter….are you trained by Vince? By any chance? I was just googling around the internet, you know, searching some new ways for getting (easy) six pack abs, and stuff, before I came across Vince’s page… I read his article, and I was surprised, that he trained you!! I didnt know you were trained by someone..?? I thought you got your six pack abs by yourself…..

I had a nice stomach about eight months ago. Then I stopped working out and now my abs are gone. At that time I was 13% and this calculator quoted me at 12%. I might have measured incorrectly so I added 2 to my measurements and the calculator changed to 14%. I recomend a double check or have a pro do it in order to find exact percentage. For, I find this calculator to be (in combination with user error) off by any where from 2 – 4 %.

Fill in your circumference measurements above and calculate your body fat. Remember this is only an estimate and is best used to show continual progress.

    I have 12% bodyfat (came from 15%)
I can see my upper abs but not my lower abs
    recently i lost like 6kg (from 78 to 71.5, i am 188 cm).

    Now my question:
    – If i try to watch what i eat and use whey protein 100% in the morning, before workout and after workout (been doing this for weeks), will i be able to define my lower abs and that v-cut (obliques?) more?

    – How important is the intake of protein in developing my muscles?

I have been following your workouts for some time now and am really happy with how things are going. So thanks!!
I have 8% body fat but I want to build muscle now without gaining body fat. I was wondering if this is possible as I know when trying to build muscle you have to eat more?

everyone should looks at this as a way to see progress over time, it does’nt show actual bodyfat %. you can use it to see if you go up or down, but it’s not very precise. it says I’ve got 6% body fat and im alot more than that, but it’s gone down since the last time I’ve used it, so I can see it going the right way, nothing more

The calculator does not seem to be using Hip value.
Irrespective of what is entered under hips, calculation is based on Waist, neck and height
