By Peter Wednesday, May 9, 2012, 08:34 PM

Candice Perfect is a lifelong Alaskan but will be moving to Los Angeles soon where we can only see big things waiting for this up and coming bikini model.

She only recently started competing in bodybuilding shows and loved it from the very first time she stepped on stage! “ I am the type of person who always needs a challenge or goal to work towards, so training for shows is a great way for me to fulfill this need and I love it.  I am also an athlete representing Team EDGE—a professional sports team coached by Ingrid Romero and Joe DiScuillo.”

At her first show, the LA FitExpo/IronMan Naturally Bodybuilding Championships,  she took 4th place and just placed 2nd at Jon Lindsay’s NPC Amateur Grand Prix.  But she is aiming for higher honors later this year when she will be competing at the Jon Lindsay NPC USA Nationals in Las Vegas in July, where she hopes to earn her IFBB pro card.

But there is more to Candice than just a sexy body! She recently graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with various Honors: Magna Cum Laude (GPA was 3.87), Departmental Honors, Leadership Honors, and was a recipient of the Seawolf Leader Award.  She also completed her Bachelor degree in just 2 ½ years!

We recently sat down with this sexy bikini model to ask her a few questions!

One word to describe yourself?

Dedicated.  Once I get an idea or goal in my head I ALWAYS find a way to make it happen.

How did you get into fitness/bodybuilding?

A friend of mine who had experience competing in bodybuilding shows introduced me to weight training.  After I saw the results and progress I had made I became serious about competing in a bodybuilding show.  After I did my first show I was absolutely hooked!

What has been your biggest accomplishment in the fitness field?

My biggest accomplishment so far is my placing at the 2012 NPC Amateur Grand Prix where I placed 2nd

Famous fitness icon/bodybuilder you would most like to have coffee/protein shake with?

Jamie Eason!  I just love her and would jump at the opportunity to pick her brain.

What is a typical daily routine for you?

It really depends on the day.  When I have the opening shift at my job I have to be there by 5:45am and get off around 1:30pm.  I generally go to the gym after I get off work; I spend at least 2 hours at the gym every day.  On days I don’t open at work my schedule is much more flexible and I usually go to the gym around 11am or noon.  Sometimes when my weight training takes a while, I will go back later at night for cardio.  I also prefer to pack my food at night for the following day.

What is your eating plan like?

It’s very balanced.  Every one of my 6-8 meals have a protein, carb, and fat.  I get my protein from chicken, tofu, tilapia, tuna, salmon, Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese.  For carbs I primarily have oats, quinoa, granola, sweet potatoes, brown rice, and Ezekiel Bread.  I also eat a ton of fruits and vegetables such as pineapple, banana, apples, strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, butternut squash, green beans, broccoli, spinach, and bell peppers.  I get my healthy fats from avocados, assorted nuts, peanut butter, and hummus.  I also eat whole eggs.

What food can’t you go without?

I love my dairy!  I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, goat cheese, and feta cheese.  I think I miss these things the most when I’m unable to have them!  Also, my fruits and vegetables!  I HAVE to have those!

What keeps you motivated to stay in shape?

For me, fitness has become a lifestyle.  I don’t just train when I’m preparing for a show.  I actually love working out and maintaining my diet plan.  I worked too hard to gain the muscle I have just to lose it in off season!  There’s a common misconception among bodybuilders as to what “off season” is.  It doesn’t mean that you stop working out, stop your diet and eat anything and everything you want.  It’s the time to make improvements to your physique so you can look better than ever next time!  It’s a goal of mine to look better every time I step on stage.  In order to do this I utilize every single day of the off season in order to make improvements.  This motivates me to stay in shape instead of back tracking.

What is your workout plan like?

Long!  I love long workouts.  I’m not the kind of person to go and spend only 30 minutes at the gym; I like to make an event of it.  My workouts are generally full of supersets and compound sets.  I also incorporate a lot of circuit style workouts.  I diversify my workouts and they’re always different.  I love lifting heavy but I also like to lower the weight and do high repetition sets.  I don’t schedule certain days of the week to a certain body part.  I go by how I’m feeling and what is or is not still sore.  Also, certain body parts need more work while others may need less so I dedicate more time to things like glutes and hamstrings.  Cardio and plyometrics are also important in my workouts.

What is the most challenging thing for you when it comes to staying in shape?

Well when I first started it was juggling college (classes, homework, extracurricular), work, dieting and training.  Now that I am an official college graduate (yay!) I have way more free time and fitness has become my primary focus.

Top 3 tips for people who want to get in shape?

1: Get to know your own body!

2: Have realistic expectations and set mini-goals in order to achieve your longer-term goals.

3: You have to be willing to make a change to your lifestyle.  Fitness really is a way of life and not just a 20 minute per day gym visit.

Body part of a guy you findmost sexy?

I guess it depends on the guy, but I’m a big eyes and teeth gal.  I love beautiful eyes and a big shiny-toothed smile.

What is the biggest myth you encounter every day in the fitness industry?

Those lose weight fast or easy scams.  Good old fashioned hard work and modifications to diet are the only two ways to get in shape.
