Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness (DOMS)

Delayed Onset Of Muscle Soreness (DOMS) refers to the pain and soreness that occurs 24-72 hours after an exercise session.

When we exercise we cause microscopic tears to our muscle fibres.

DOMS is more common at the start of a new exercise programme or if you increase the intensity of your routine.

The harder and longer you exercise the greater the Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness.

The most DOMS is also caused during eccentric muscle contraction or negative training.

To lessen the DOMS experienced gradually increase your exercise intensity and incorporate rest days into training programme to allow muscles to recover.
