5 Foods You Should NEVER Eat if You Want Six Pack Abs

In the great quest for proper abs nutrition, it can be difficult to sort out all the garbage from the good stuff. Well, let me rephrase that: It can be difficult if you allow it to be. Honestly, the perfect diet for six pack abs is simple. Eat fresh, whole, healthy foods with as few ingredients as possible. Translation? A whole, fresh apple contains one major ingredient: apple. On the other hand, apple-cinnamon instant oatmeal contains sugar, preservatives, additives, and a whole laundry list of chemically altered substances in addition to the tiny bit of apple flavoring and oats you may get. Now, which sounds better to you?

Banned From Nutrition

Even so, I’d rather you go for the oatmeal than that apple turnover pastry taunting you from the deli case. If you are ever going to get those six pack abs you crave, there are a few foods that you absolutely must ban—and I mean ban—from your diet. Forever! They are:

  1. White, bleached, enriched, or otherwise altered flour-based products. There is a reason diabetics are not supposed to eat white bread. White flour has absolutely zero, zilch, nadda, and zip in the way of nutritional value. Got that? Nothing. However, it is converted by the body to sugar when it hits the blood stream, which means that you are just about as well off eating a cupcake as you are to eat a sandwich on white bread. It is nutritionally bankrupt and makes you fat, period.
  2. French fries and potato chips a good diet for six pack abs does not make! Yes, I know, they say that everything’s fine in moderation. Wrong! Not only are these snacks made of nothing but starch and usually have chemical preservatives, but they are also marinated in trans fat oil. Stay away! If you must have fries, make them yourself at home from fresh potatoes and bake them in the oven.
  3. High fructose corn syrup. You knew it was coming, right? This little substance that has become so popular wreaks havoc on your abs nutrition, not to mention the rest of the body. It is not processed in the body the same way as table sugar, but rather has to go through the liver first. Manufacturers are beginning to call it “corn sugar” as well, so be very careful to read labels. Hint: no sodas!
  4. Frozen “diet” meals. You know, the ones that have the word “lean” in the name? They are nothing but one big chemically altered smorgasbord of terrible. Besides, a fresh grilled chicken breast with scallions tastes 10 times better anyway!
  5. Bad Fast Food. Most fast foods contain a lot of Trans Fats. You know the fats that have no essential purpose other than to lower you good cholesterol and increase your bad cholesterol. In other words, the only thing these kinds of foods is good for, is giving you a heart attack! Not to mention it will only take you away further from being ripped as well.

Clear these foods out of your abs nutrition plan forever, stick with foods whose ingredients you can readily and easily identify, keep it simple, and you’ll enjoy showing off those six pack abs in no time!

  36. Hasan says:

    Dear Peter..

i’m running 3 times a week and do some 6 packs exercises and my question is :

what about coffee ? i can’t start my work day without it :( and i’m really like to drink coffee ( cappuccino) ..is it good or i have to stop ?

    let me know

    Thanks

  37. peter says:

Coffee is not that bad, TO MUCH coffee is bad like almost everything in life! So no more then 3 cups per day and you need to drink it BLACK without any sugar. If you add full fat milk or sugar it becomes bad. So drop the cappuccino’s and drink espresso like real man!!! :)

  38. navaro says:

    hi guys….
better to go jogging or run at the treadmill 30min or join the cycling class??? thanks

  39. Richard says:

Hey I’ve take a weight lifting class and know the importance of a strong core and am currently following a good diet/core program. My question is if I have a stomach and build my core up how would that work in terms of abs? If i lose my stomach will my abs be mostly formed already or do you kind of have to lose it first then worry about abs?

  40. peter says:

Yip your abs will be there. So if you lose your fat around your abdominal area you will have 6 pack abs!

  41. peter says:

Same thing so do the one you like best. I like cycling more then running so I do that. But if you love running then go for a run.

  42. mudassir says:

yipeee i got 8 pacs now i have sexy figure

  43. Isaac says:

Hey, i often eat whole wheat pancakes for breakfast with sugar free syrup, is that an ok breakfast to eat?

  44. peter says:

I won’t know unless I can see the exact info on the pancakes but what you do need is some protein to make it a proper breakfast.

  45. Stephanie says:

    hi peter!
your workouts seem to work really well.
i was wondering, for girls, how to loose weight around stomach area? i have tried everything! is there any specific exercise that targets weight around stomach? because i want to be toned but not have a super six pack, just no belly fat when i sit down! thanks :)

  46. Andy says:

Hey there. I’m a coeliac and so I eat lots of corn-based foods to replace wheat (eg corn crackers, corn breads, corn flour, etc). You said that corn is bad at the “wrong time” – when is the wrong and right time? Cheers Andy

  47. greg says:

i love to eat at night, but i have stopped eating meals that late. would there be a problem with me having a protein shake with frozen fruit?

  48. peter says:

Carbs at the wrong time and that time is late at night just before you go to bed.

  49. peter says:

Just follow the workouts. You will lose that fat eventually.

  50. peter says:

A protein shake late at night is good but leave the fruits for earlier in the day.

  51. Shawn says:

Some simple thoughts to consider… you can not gain a pound without consuming a pound. If you are trying to lose weight, keep that one in mind first!!! Your body will use the carbs you consume before you it uses the fat you have stored. So if you are on a weight loss mission, don’t eat seamingly healthy foods like banana’s, apples, etc. Stick to berries, green vegitables, and lean protien. You don’t even have to exercise to lose weight by doing this…and if you have tried it and it is not working, you are cheating somehow because it is not possible! Stay focused and don’t lose your self control!!! You Can Do IT!!!!!!!!!

  52. Andy says:

    Peter,

I have signed up to your 6week challenge and would also sign up for the 6packdiet.com but $47 dollas is abit much can you give me some discount code so i can get for $27… thanks

I would like some tips for me to get slim and strong again… plz

  55. peter says:

Well first you need to add some weight training to your workouts if you want to get stronger. And then you need to make sure yu get enought protien in through things like nuts, beans etc

  56. Michael says:

    Hey peter

just wanting to know that in my diet its low fat and carbs but the carbs im requiring are from fruits and veggies etc…
and everytime i eat its like my belly has that round bulk again and in the morning its gone.. is my diet working or do i need to put more protein into it and heavier weights for abbs?

  57. peter says:

It can happen for many reasons. Without knowing your exact diet I won’t be able to tell you if it is ok or not. Pop over the http://www.the6packdiet.com for more info.

  80. Grammar Police says:

Why do all the people leaving comments have terrible spelling and horrible grammar. Is english hard?

  81. peter says:

Due to this being an worldwide site, many of our fans don’t speak english at all or speak very little english. So it is understandable that sometimes they wont get the spelling or grammar right. They might even be using Google translate. It will be a bit like asking you to speak Greek or type in Greek. We really don’t mind as long as we can understand what you ask and can help.

  87. peter says:

Cerial bars is normally not very good as they are full of sugar and simple carbs. Almost any veg is good and fruits are good too but NOT to much as it still has a lot of sugar.

  106. Taylor Fales says:

Everything you eat has trade-offs, and where one would like to enjoy their eating (ie: cheat) they just need to be aware of the effects that that decision has on their body, and the ensuing repercussions it has on their diet.

You know what I love? Frozen Bean and Cheese buritos. Do they have any nutritional value? Of course they do. They have protein, fiber, calories, sodium, all things the body needs. Does it deliver these in an efficient method? Not so much. Result? If I want to have my bean and cheese burito, it probably means that I’m going to have oatmeal with no additives for breakfast. My burito can be for lunch, and I should probably have some raw vegetables on the side. For dinner I’ll venture to have a spinach salad garnished with a hald-boiled egg, balsamic-marinated garbanzo beans, feta cheese, and a sprinkle of olive oil and some healthy squeezes of fresh lemon juice. Voila. A day within all recommended intakes (throw in a protein shake as well if you’ve hit the gym).

Everything you eat has a trade off. People need to be aware of what’s in their food and read labels. Everything in moderation really is the secret – not only is it healthy, but it’s also a much more enjoyable way to live.

What I dislike about this article is that it writes off certain foods while giving very little valuable information. It lists a bunch of foods that are obviously horrible to eat without moderation, while not giving the reader any valuable information on how to balance ‘bad foods’ into their diet.

I came across this article through a search I did of “white pasta vs whole wheat”. This is an interesting topic for me because unlike many other foods where most of the nutritional value is ‘stripped’ due to processing, *all* pasta is processed. While brown pasta has more nutritional value (ie: more fiber per calorie ratio), it is no different in fat, calories, protein, or sodium. Assuming that I already have a decent fiber consumption, there is no advantage to eating brown pasta (at least, this is according to the research I’ve done so far). According to this research, I don’t have to sacrifice my white pasta for an abhorred alternative as long as I’m willing to introduce a more fiber-efficient calorie somewhere else.

  107. Darrien says:

    Hey Peter,
If I eat protein bars and workout and do my 6 pack workouts would that affect my chances of getting a six pack and the bars I get are one of the healthiest out there thanks

  114. peter says:

I don’t like protein bars. No matter how good they are they could also be high in fat, sugar and calories in general. Eat real food rather.

  115. Alex says:

Good for you. You will be 6 feet under soon :) . The fact is that you can have these foods, they are not healthy, but if you know how to eat right most of the time and how to train, then you can have these on a weekly basis and still be ripped. I know becuase I DO!

  121. shone paulosn says:

i am 19 years old . i want six pack abss .. wht food i wnt to avoid in simple language is egg is good?

  122. Florine says:

    Heeeeej peter,

Just visited your site about half a year ago, did your workouts and ate good until somepoint.. ever since then I lost my motivation to train and eat healthy.. Every night when I’m going to bed I really hate myself for eating that unhealthy stuff(or eat to much of healthy food) ever since that half year I gained 8 kg that’s about 17 pounds and I do truly feel stupid..
I wish I would be thin again, every night I think: yeah I’m gonna do it tomorrow, but every time I eat something bad or don’t go sporting..

And now the question: what Should I do to get my motivation back and stick to it? What should be my goal? what was your motivation? I already tried a dietist but that only motivates me for 1 week or so..

    Thanks a lot xxxxxxxxx

  123. Joseph says:
